About Me

I spent most of my childhood in St. George, Utah.  I will always have a place in my heart for southern Utah.  I now live in Saratoga Springs, Utah with my husband.  We love it there.  I graduated from Dixie State College in 2010 while doing an internship at Canyon Elementary in Spanish Fork.  After my internship I received a job at Mapleton Elementary teaching 3rd grade.  I taught 3rd grade for two years, then moved up to 4th grade.

Throughout my life I have always treasured learning; I enjoy having a challenge.  In sixth grade I was placed in a Pre-Algebra math class.  It was challenging for me, and I had a hard time grasping the concepts.  I was always afraid to ask questions because I didn’t want to look stupid in front of my peers.  Through the rest of my years in middle school and high school I didn’t understand math much, and it became the subject I dreaded the most.
My sophomore year in college I observed a high school math class.  This teacher taught AP Calculus, the hardest math class I took in high school, and I never understood a thing I was taught.  The day I was observing the class, the teacher was teaching a concept that I particularly didn’t understand my junior year of high school, but for some reason when he taught it I completely understood.  It was the best feeling in the world to finally understand.  That’s when I officially decided that I wanted to be a teacher.  I want to have my students feel the same feeling I did when they figure out a concept.
As an educator, I strive to be someone that can not only be professional and serious, but one that is creative and makes learning fun.  Learning doesn’t have to be a chore, and shouldn't be.  I enjoy learning new concepts.  I enjoy spreading my passion for learning to my students, and getting them excited to come to school each day.  I aim to have lessons that involve the students, no matter their differences, and give them each a learning experience that they will comprehend and treasure.  I do all I can to make my classroom a safe-haven where my students know that they can be themselves and be appreciated for who they are.
